Nothing is known of the reason for his original appointment in 1862. Mr. Site Roz was described to me as somewhat harsh in temper and opinionated, but an excellent officer.
This description is confirmed by my own inspector of the Mounting Police. But as to the authority for his appointment, I am not quite certain. However, in his confidential Report # of 1876/86, Maj. O'Brien described him as
"Active & Zealous, One of the most trustworthy and efficient Confidential and detective Police Officers in the Colony": Mr. Bedingfield, late Col. Sec. Mauritius, wrote in the highest terms of his conduct and capacity.
